William Blake; W. B. Yeats, Songs of Innocence
William Blake; W. B. Yeats
Songs of Innocence
London, The Medici Society, Ltd. 1927. Cloth. A brightly illustrated copy of William Blake's collection of poetry Songs of Innocence. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, eleven colour plates, and many in-text images. Collated complete. A collection of poems, first printed in 1789, presenting happy, innocent images in pastoral harmony. It also subtly shows the dangers of this naive and vulnerable state, such as in "The Chimney Sweeper" and "The Little Black Boy". Written by William Blake, an English poet, painter, and printmaker. With a prefatory letter by William Butler Yeats, an Irish poet, dramatist and writer, considered one of the foremost figures of twentieth century literature. Illustrated by Jacynth Parson, an English artist and daughter of designer and stained-glass artist Karl Parsons. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, sound with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Light fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. A large red paint mark to the front board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Light age toning to the endpapers. Colour pencil marks to pages 8 and 9 with light pencil marks to the endpapers. Pencil marks to the frontispiece with paint to the reverse and the front endpaper. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper dated 1927. Good Only . Ill.: Jacynth Parsons. Good Only .
